It's a pretty cute bedroom now, if I say so. :)
I started a quilt when I was pregnant with Katie in December 2005. I cut out all the pieces and was going to do one quilt block a month with a group of ladies from church. Unfortunately, after the first 2 months, the group dissolved, and I was left with lots and lots of cut up fabric. So I packed it away.
Then, when I was pregnant with Anna, I realized that it was vitally important for this quilt to be finished. (strange how that happens when one is pregnant). I finished the blocks and sewed them all together at the beginning of 2011. Then added more fabric to the sides to make it big enough for a Queen size bed. And even more fabric, because I calculated wrong in the first place.
About 2 weeks before Annalisa was born, I took the quilt top to a lady in our ward that does a fabulous job, but doesn't even seem to charge for her time. It amazed me that she did such a good job, and she felt bad about charging me for it. She's such a sweetie. Anyways, she asked if she should bind it as well, but me, in my naivete, thought, it can't be that hard. I'll just do it. Ha!
So another 6 months go by, and I decide to make my own bias tape (it's easy! and so much cheaper! and it will match perfectly! Lies, all Lies). I sewed the bias on (the wrong side, incidentally. I guess you are supposed to sew it on the back first?) which I tried to cheat and do it simply. Apparently there are people out there (my Mom being one) that have done this before and know that cheating doesn't work. Not me!
I tried to sew a topstitch that would catch the bottom of the bias AND sew the top on at the same time! And I'd only have to sew it once. Brilliant! Except I ironed it wrong or something, and had to redo it many times. Ugh.
All that to say, it is finished! Ta da!

And the final quilt:
I am pretty proud of it. It was a pain and hard and took forever to finally complete, but now that it is done, I'm happy with how it looks. I'm ready to start tackling another one. In my free time, of course. Ha!
